The first edition of this comprehensive clinical resource was titled Handbook of Chronic Pain Management (1989). The second edition is revised to incorporate the recently established and the emerging clinical advances in pain diagnosis and treatment, and retitled to reflect a new emphasis on the wide spectrum of pain rather than chronic pain alone. Five chapters from the previous edition have been eliminated and ten new chapters added. Of particular interest is a new section on Pharmacologic Interventions, containing five chapters that discuss the use of various medications in clinical pain practice as well as a chapter on drug detoxification protocols.
