Reviews
There was a great deal to admire about this book. As a useful book for students, it will fit into a small shoulder bag and can be dipped into easily. I particularly liked the recommended Further Reading lists annotated with personal recommendations by the author which will stimulate the curiosity of the motivated! This little book aims to cover an entire discipline. The task of summarising such a huge field, whilst ensuring that all relevant information is included, is set in its context, is discussed in a meaningful manner and yet is also presented in a stimulating way, has in my opinion been admirably achieved by Dr Thambirajah. It should become a core text book for students in psychiatry and mental health nursing and I will certainly be recommending it for my trainees. BMA Awards 2005
Key Features
A concise textbook concentrating on what the trainee psychiatrist needs to know about psychology - trainees at the moment tend to be unhappy with currently available books.
Psychiatric curriculum now lays more emphasis on psychology, psychological formulations and psychotherapeutic interventions, thus increasing the need for a suitable book.
Links normal psychological functioning with abnormal psychology/psychopathology, and stresses applications to clinical practice.
Written by a psychiatrist with extensive experience of what psychiatry trainees need, rather than by a psychologist as with most of the competition.
